Modern Automotive

Since 1975, Modern Materials, Inc. has offered high performance services to the automotive industry at quality prices.  Beginning with a license from NASA to provide Impreglon, Modern Materials, Inc. has vastly increased its service mix.  Today, on top of offering over 20 finishes for use in the automotive market, Modern Materials, Inc. custom engineers new finishes every year to meet the needs of its customers.

Hi-Tech Finishes Conventional Finishes
  • AU0101: A thermoplastic version of PTFE.  Exceeds 850 hours NSS.  Has great fluid resistance and is black in color.   Even Locktite adhesives will not adhere to it.

  • AU0103 :  A fluorocarbon metal Impregnation.  Contains Moly & PTFE and exceeds 240 hours NSS.  Is mottled gray in color and has an extremely low Co-efficient of friction.   Very thin films.

  • AU0218: A fluorocarbon metal impregnation of PTFE.  Reduces friction and wear while enhancing corrosion protection on metallic substrates.

  • AU218D:  Similar to AU0218 but able to provide lubrication under dry conditions (no oils etc.).  Grey in appearance.

  • AU218D LOW TEMP:  Cures at temps as low as 212 F.  Extremely low friction characteristics.  Gray in color.  Very thin films.  Exceeds 96 hours NSS on bare steel.

  • AU1010:  A fluorocarbon coating that reduces friction and wear.  Unique ability to resist brake fluids as well as oils and solvents.

  • AU5251: Unique fluorocarbon designed to resist all automotive fluids (especially brake fluid).

  • AU1331:  A high impact coating that reduces friction and wear.  Will outlast chrome.

  • AUOPTI: A rubber-like coating.  Withstands 10-year gravelometer tests.  Over powder coatings exceeds 1,000 hours NSS per ASTM117-B.   Will not scuff.  Irregular black appearance.

  • AUOSYN: A clear release coating.  Air drying and very thin (Under .0005”)

  • AUOZYP:  A space-age coating for metals that is able to transfer heat up to 2,400 degrees Fahrenheit.  Gray in appearance.   Thin films of less than .002”.   Will withstand the direct effects of propane torch on ¼” thick steel. Refractory coating.

Modern Materials, Inc. also custom engineers coatings to meet customer specifications.
